What you can do in 3 hours...

So - what can you do in 3 hours on a rainy Sunday?

Learn to sew a dress for your little girl! My friend Amy has been having little sewing parties to impart her sewing knowledge to her friends. We've all been so amazed at some of the cute things she's making for her little boy - so she wanted to show us that anyone could do it. Today I met up with my friend Grace at Amy's house and she taught us how to sew a cute little dress. No joke, I made this adorable dress for Megan in a little less than 3 hours. It was a lot of fun and very doable, even for me. I love learning new things so it really got my imagination dreaming up tons of little projects. My friend Vanessa is going to let me borrow her sewing machine for a bit so I can practice and try out a few more cute dresses and projects. I think it'll be a fun summer. Now all I have to do is find some of that spare time!
Here's my little doodlebug in her new dress (Grandma Maddy - the red is just for you!)- she's all ready practicing her model walk down the runway. And, I think she's as happy with it as I am!!!!

It's so cute. And, like you say, once you move the buttons up to shrink the arm hole size, it'll even be more adorable. And remember, we were sitting around alot, so it really shouldn't take you much more than 1 hour after you get the pieces cut out. You'll be amazed how fast it goes once you know how and aren't distracted. I LOVE IT!!!

One more thing...you could probably adjust the pattern to make the arm holes smaller, too.

Sorry, just though of another thing you could do to make the arm holes smaller next time...when you're sewing, sew 1/2 inch from the edge instead of 1/4 inch. That will eat up some fabric and reduce the amount you have on the arm hole as well. Does that make sense? If not, call me and I'll explain. Grace sewed about 1/4-1/2 inch and her arm holes don't look quite as big. Remember how on yours you were really close to the edge of the fabric at some places? I think that may have contributed to it. Ahhh...we'll learn lots of things as we practice. I'll try and trace some more of my sister-in-laws cute girl patterns when I'm at her place next month. That way I can share them with you guys. We'll have to get together again. I can make some shorts and you folks with girls can make bloomers since there are just a few different steps. Bloomers, you'll want to line fully with white fabric. Sorry so long.

hey - love the dress! glad you had a good time making it.

did you say you were giving megan a steroid inhaler? is that all she's taking or albuterol also? jacob's dr wants to add that to his mix. along with the singulair and claritin and albuterol for coughing fits. that's a lot of medicine!

I was just going to say that the dress is very sweet. I have some dots for Macie when I get to the next dress.
But, I read all of Amy's comments. Macie's arm holes are big too, but they did not look bad when she wearing the dress. I also bought another pattern that is similar. They were on sale when I was at the fabric store so I got one. You are welcome to use it as well.
